I can’t believe I missed this one in my portfolio! This is a portrait I did for my boyfriend’s company Will Pursell Photography. The main purpose behind this illustration was to use it in his website as something a little different from the ordinary self portrait.

In this illustrated portrait, I thought of one word that speaks of Will and his wedding photos: EPIC. He’s known for scaling fences, climbing trees or finding locations to get that “EPIC wedding photograph” that he’s known for all throughout his work. I wanted to capture that word in this illustration. I wanted to capture the lengths he will go to in order to get a beautiful, original wedding shot. I referenced one of his favourite photos, where he put a bride and groom in a tree. I decided then to put him balancing on one leg on a branch to show how extreme he will get in order to get the perfect angle (and added in mountains to complete the background and epicness of the photo).

It’s always fun to draw friends and family because I get a kick out of seeing their reactions. This one was done in colour with green and blue tones which Will commonly uses in his photographs.
